Sponsor of HCHS International Travel Scholarships, Miriam Rand, dies at age 100
HCHS Alumna (HCHS class of 1932) and legendary Beverly Hills travel agent Miriam Rand, who worked in the industry for seven decades and booked travel for Hollywood’s biggest stars, died in late February at age 100.
At her 90th birthday celebration at the Beverly Hilton in 2006, Rand insisted that the event be more than a birthday party – it raised more than $100,000 for a scholarship fund at her alma mater, Hunter College High School in New York. The scholarships have been used to help students travel overseas on school-sponsored trips.
Miriam Rand and her husband, Howard, opened Rand-Fields Travel Service in Beverly Hills, Calif., in 1949; it became a division of Protravel International in 2002. Over the years, she counted many Hollywood stars as clients, including Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe.
Protravel, which created the Miriam Rand Travel Fund in 2006, said donations made out to The Hunter College Foundation in her memory can be sent to Francesca Bacon, The Hunter College Foundation, 695 Park Ave., Suite 1313E, New York, N.Y. 10065.
