Welcome to Hunter College High School (HCHS)

Hunter College High School (HCHS) is a part of the Hunter College Campus Schools, the laboratory schools of the City University of New York administered by Hunter College. Our high school serves students in grades 7-12. The only entry year for HCHS is 7th grade.

We serve students who demonstrate advanced cognitive ability and prepare them to be life-long learners and leaders. We assist in the development of creative, intellectually-curious, and original thinkers who are passionate about learning. Our schools use the principles of gifted education, including depth, complexity, challenge, enrichment, and acceleration of the curriculum, to meet the needs of intellectually-advanced students.

On these pages you will find general information about the HCHS admission process for 7th grade. HCHS does not accept inquiries or applications for any other grade. (Students are not admitted into grades 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12. There are NO exceptions to grade entry.)

  • 7th Grade Admissions for Fall 2025

    The HCHS application for entry into 7th grade in Fall 2025 is now open and will remain open through Friday, December 6, 2024.

    Qualifying scores are posted under the "Eligibility" tab of this site.

    If your child is just beneath the criteria, you may be eligible for the Academics Insight Profile (AIP). For more information, please click here.

    The AIP will open on November 8th.

  • The Application Process: Step-by-Step 2024-2025

    Applications are now open for entry into Hunter College High School (HCHS) for entry in Fall 2025. Qualifying scores are posted under the "Eligibility" tab of this site.

    There is no cost to apply to Hunter College High School (HCHS). However candidates must meet specific criteria to qualify to take the HCHS Entrance Exam in January 2025. 

    Hunter College High School will process applications through Ravenna, an online application system for students applying to many non-DOE K-12 schools. We hope that families benefit from a more user-friendly and streamlined experience provided by Ravenna.

    To avoid confusion or disqualification, families are encouraged to read all information in this section before attempting to create, edit or submit an application.  

    STEP I: Ensure the student's eligibility. CLICK HERE FOR ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION.

     
    STEP II: Create an Account in Ravenna Hub

    Navigate to www.ravenna-hub.com and click 'Create Account'. Complete the steps presented in order to finish creating an account. 


    STEP III: Create a Student Profile in Ravenna Hub

    On the left side of the Ravenna Hub Dashboard, look for the 'Add Student' button. Click on it and complete the required information for the student.

    The Hub account will house your student's profile, your Hunter application and also help you manage all secondary forms and document requests.

    STEP IV: Create and Submit an Application

    Locate Hunter College Campus Schools in the Ravenna directory. Parents will be required to upload an official score report OR a copy of the student's scores from the NYSschools account (schoolsaccount.nyc) in order to complete the application.

    Hunter College High School Admissions does not have access to any student score reports.
