Dear Class of 2030,

We are thrilled to welcome you to the HCHS Community! All of us in the Hunter community share your excitement and remember how it felt to know our children were about to begin a truly unique and remarkable journey of growth at HCHS. We welcome you to reach out to us (president@hunterpta.org) with any questions or concerns you may have now or during the course of the year.

Everyone is welcome to play a part, large and small, in continuing the success of this truly unique public institution. You’ll find on this page some ways you can get involved right away. It is our heartfelt joy to welcome you to our parent community.

As you prepare for your Hunter HS journey please look for emails from HCHS PTA (info@hunterpta.org) informing you of fun get-to-know-your-class events such as picnics, school tours, potlucks, PTA general meetings, 7th Grade Rep elections, and much more. You will receive notices of these activities after you are assigned a HCHS School Login (Blackbaud account). Please make sure to keep the check mark on to allow emails and messages from the PTA.

Congratulations and welcome to Hunter!

Yours,

Nita Stella (parent of a 12th grader)
Roseanne Ciparick Almanzar (parent of a 9th grader)

List of 4 items.

  • Incoming 7s Medical Requirements

For information regarding medical requirements for the incoming class, as well as where to send your documents, please click here.
  • Celebrating Diversity with Affinity Groups

The PTA champions diversity; it's a core part of our stated mission to promote appreciation and harmony among our many identities. Below are Hunter parent community groups you can join in celebration of our rich diversity.

    Mosaic

Mosaic (K-12) This K-12 committee focuses on supporting an inclusive environment at HCCS. Mosaic’s mission includes holding space for difficult conversations to increase mutual understanding and foster a sense of community within our school and in the greater society. Anyone interested in supporting and enhancing inclusion and belonging at HCHS is urged to contribute. Beyond interest and enthusiasm, a useful skill would be the ability to find good speakers for our monthly meetings as well as our evening events. mosaic@hunterpta.org

The PTA works closely with the following affiliated parent groups, which support their respective communities through meetings, activities, and events that are co-sponsored with the PTA.

    • Association of Latin and Hispanic Familias y Amigos (ALHFA) hccs.alhfa@gmail.com
    • Chinese American Parents Association (CAPA) capa@hunterpta.org
    • Jewish Affinity Group (JAG) jag@hunterpta.org
    • Korean American Parents Association (KAPA) kapa@hunterpta.org
    • Parents of African-American Children (PAAC) paac@hunterpta.org
    • Parents of Children with Accommodations (POCA) poca@hunterpta.org
    • South Asian Affinity Group (SAAG) saag@hunterpta.org
  • Join the PTA as a Grade Rep!

A great tradition of the HCHS PTA is to reserve a position on the PTA Board for a parent or guardian of a rising 7th grader. The PTA Board (usually) meets on the evening of the first Monday of every month. At least half (probably more) of the meetings will be conducted via Zoom.

The Grade 7 Rep (or Reps, who would share the vote) is a full voting member of the Board, and acts as the PTA's ambassador to seventh grade families. The Grade 7 Rep(s) also works with Travel Class Reps to coordinate student/family events, messaging, and PTA initiatives. Being part of the Board is a fantastic way to keep up with all that goes on at HCHS, as well as meet so many interesting people within our community.

Whether you have previous PTA experience or not, if being part of the HCHS PTA Board interests you, or if you just have questions about it, please reach out to Nita and Roseanne (president@hunterpta.org). If you know for sure that you would like to run for Grade 7 Rep, please fill this out.
  • Neighborhood Commuting Outreach

HCHS is a citywide school, with students coming from every corner of this geographically enormous city. What's more, our students take full advantage of the extra-curricular activities offered at HCHS, making their daily schedules varied and unique. For these reasons, it is simply not possible for PTA volunteers to centrally organize and maintain bus routes or rideshare programs.

However, we are happy to put parents who live in the same areas and are interested in organizing rideshares or commuting buddies in touch with one another. We can also put you in touch with existing Hunter parents in your area if you would like their advice on commuting strategies. If any of these things interest you, please fill out our quick questionnaire.
